Professor Sophia E.J.A. de Rooij (1969) is a geriatrician and internist, she became a professor in Internal Medicine, specialized in Geriatric Medicine in 2012 at the University of Amsterdam. Currently, dr de Rooij is also head of the University Centre for Geriatric Medicine at the UMCG, University of Groningen, the Netherlands. The Northern part of the Netherlands serves as a EU-reference site in Healthy Aging.

She initiated many innovative research projects concerning improving cure and care of acutely admitted elderly hospital patients. She is interested in health care technology and recently developed a serious game. She is president of the Dutch Society of Internal Medicine since 2013.
