Marno Duursma was born in 1981 in Jakarta. After four months he was adopted, which played an important role in his life. He wanted to flee and run away from the here and now. Marno continued to fantasize about his home country and his biological mother. At seventeen, he made a first trip to his roots. Two years later he met his biological mother. However, this meeting was a big disappointment, and not satisfactory. He became depressed, and didn’t want to go any further. He had always seen his adoption as his weakness, but then he turned it into one of his strengths. He wrote a book about his experiences “trapped in unconditional love” and now, he helps other adoptees and families. Furthermore, he gives guest lectures about how he turned one of his weakest points into a strenght, and acts as a nation wide expert for the media.
